How Did You Get Your Kicks? Writing Contest

Calling all writers, nostalgia buffs and adventure hounds! How Did YOU Get Your Kicks? We're currently seeking road trip memoirs and memorabilia to share at our June Route 66 event. Submit your typewritten road trip memoirs of any length to Julie Engel, (352) 728-1329, jengel@lakeportsquare.com by May 30. You may win a prize! E-mail submissions are encouraged, but we'll also take your handwritten stories, gladly. Poems are also welcome. All entries are subject to publication by Lake Port Square. If you have any memorabilia to share, we'd love to display it. We will also have an open mic and awards at this event.

Mother's Day Tea - May 9, 2008 - 2p.m.

Get Your Kicks on Route 66 - June 18, 2008 - 2:00p.m. to 4:00p.m.

Celebrate the romance and freedom of 20th Century automobile travel as we take a road trip down memory lane.

Our "route" will commence in the Midwest, featuring savory BBQ and live acoustic Rhythm and Blues of Chicago and St. Louis, by Ruth King.

We'll ramble on through the Southwest, where we'll be greeted with Mariachi sounds by El Mariachi De Mexico and zesty fare with a South of the Border flair, Ole!

We'll arrive in California with our top down for a beach blanket picnic and the welcoming sounds of the surf by Tom Carlile.
